Jim O’Brien Gets To 100!

Okay, so maybe the exclamation point is a little sarcastic. Jim O’Brien has been the head coach of the Indiana Pacers for three season and his record is 100-139. I can’t confirm this, but I believe Dick Versace had a better record than O’Brien (I bring the old school references). Is O’Brien the right guy for the job or is it time to move on?

Josh McRoberts, who hasn’t seen much playing time since his college days at Duke a few years ago, got a rare start for the Pacers. He filled in for an injured Roy Hibbert and the Pacers still won easily at home against the Washington Wizards. Can the Pacers do anything wrong right now?
“The Palace Brawl” or “The Malice At The Palace” happened at a time when both the Detroit Pistons and Indiana Pacers were perennial contenders and had a lot of swagger. Fast-forward to 2010 and neither of these teams have much of a strut and are clearly two different teams. They are different, not only by their roster, but their offensive and defensive ideology. It’s been a long time since the “Basketbrawl” happened and don’t expect to see it when these two teams meet up at the Palace of Auburn Hills on Tuesday night.
I know that a “true fan” would love to see the Pacers to come out with a win, no matter who they are playing. Indiana played the streaking Oklahoma City Thunder and won 121-101 Sunday afternoon. Why is this win so bittersweet? The Pacers have won three of four, at a point in the season where only half of the teams are actually wanting to win the game.
Since the Pacers have been playing like garbage lately, I can only assume that they are jockeying for position in the NBA Lottery. I am being positive about this, because I don’t want to believe that they are actually this bad. Derrick Favors, a 6′10 center from Georgia Tech, was one a top 5 recruit coming into this year. He has looked like a freshman at times, but over the last ten games, he has looked like a top 5 pick in this year’s NBA Draft.
I had to wait a few days before I wrote about this movie, only because I have watched it four times over the last two days. I wanted to get every nuance and memory and wrap it up into a post. As far as I know, this will probably be the only movie review that I do on this site (Unless I can somehow convince Rik Smits to star in a screenplay I’m working on). ESPN has been knocking documentaries out of the park recently and I believe “Winning Time: Reggie Miller Vs. The New York Knicks,” might be the best to date.
Oklahoma combo-guard, Willie Warren, is still pondering his future. If he came out last year, some mock drafts had him going in the mid-Lottery, exactly where the Pacers could be picking this year. A nice combo guard is what the Pacers need, but one that can help score alongside Danny Granger. Could Warren be the answer to Indiana’s problem at that position?
A.J. Price’s pro career has already went full-circle and he’s only a rookie. As a 2nd round pick, it wasn’t a sure thing that he would even get a contract with the backlog of point guards already on Indiana’s roster. He went from sitting out the first month of the season to seeing substantial playing time here over the last two months. Could A.J. Price be Indiana’s long-term plan for their backup point guard?
The Pacers were rumored to be in the market to trade nearly every player on their team, but there was one trade that was inches away from happening. How close? Well, after arriving on a plane, T.J. Ford actually starting dancing when he heard the news of a possible trade to Charlotte. The trade never happened, so who was involved? Let’s chat…..
The Pacers look to have a pretty nice 3-game stretch coming up. They have Toronto and Detroit at home and then travel to Milwaukee. Neither of those three teams have been play inspired basketball of late, could they at least win 2 out of 3?
