Dahntay Jones Signs With Pacers
July 9th, 2009 | by sweetbob |
Larry Bird said that the Pacers were going to be active this off-season, let’s hope that this is just the beginning. The Pacers signs Dahntay Jones to a 4-year/$11 millon contract today. He once again teams up with Mike Dunleavy, who was his teammate at Duke. He bounced around the league, spending most of his career in Memphis, in obscurity. He failed to sign on with a team for most of the 2007-08 season and even played in the D-League. The Pacers may have had a good look at him there, since he played for their NBDL affiliate, The Fort Wayne Mad Ants.
Last season the Denver Nuggets took a chance on him and he started most of the games for them. He is known as a defensive stopper, something that the Pacers needed last season. They gave up 106.2 points per game, 28th in the league. Jones was a big reason for Denver’s change in philosophy last season. They improved on their perimeter defense, thanks to guys like Jones and Chauncey Billips.
Jones will help fill the spot that Marquis Daniels left, who they let become a free agent.
Intersting Fact: Dahntay Jones is the cousin of the twice-former Pacer, Al Harrington.
