Random Pacer – Scott Haskin

Can you believe that Scott Haskin was nearly a lottery pick for the Pacers back in 1993? He was picked in the fist round with the 14th overall pick. Do you think that if Jay Bilas would have covered this draft, would he describe Haskin as “long”?
The 1993 NBA Draft was a pretty weark overall draft. After Chris Webber, Jamal Mashburn, and Anfernee Hardaway were taken, only Sam Cassell at #24 would be considered to have a good NBA career. I remember watching the draft on television and not knowing who Scott Haskin was. He had a decent career at Oregon State, but for being 6′11, he couldn’t rebound and wasn’t very athletic. They already had Rik Smits, but he still wasn’t developed into a player that he would become. I wished that they drafted Nick Van Exel with this pick, ’cause I remember seeing him play in a lot of games for Cincinnati. He looked like a faster Reggie Miller for the Bearcats.
Scott Haskin didn’t have much of an NBA career. I could barely find a picture to use on google. He made over $2 million in his 3-year career with the Pacers, but only played in a grand total of 26 games. All of the 26 games that he appeared in, were during his 1993-94 rookie season. I tried to find out what he is doing now, but I couldn’t find anything. His wikipedia page is barely one sentence. I went a few search pages deep in trying to find something new about him, but I gave up. I can only imagine that he is selling insurance somewhere on the West Coast and still trying to convince people that he actually played in the NBA. I would put money down that no one believes him.

LOL…..believe it or not, Scott actually is selling insurance in Portland, OR. He’s a really good guy, and its unfortunate that his very limited NBA career was cut short by injury.

haha, that is hilarious. It was just a guess. It seems that a lot of ex pro-athletes or decent college athletes that never make it to the pros, sell insurance. I wish Scott well!

actually he was a general contractor and did several remodels before defaulting and going out of biz.

Yup, nail on the head. But as Lee posted he is a great guy. He never mentions basketball unless you bring it up, and he seems happy with life.
Nice to see someone who was that close to his dream not be a bitter burnout, or an alcoholic and or drug user.
