Hibbert Shows Up Against Nuggets
October 9th, 2009 | by sweetbob |
A few days after it was reported that Roy Hibbert could be in the doghouse in Indiana, he plays against Denver in Taiwan and registers eight blocks. He did was he was brought in the league to do, eat up paint and play defense.
I was starting to worry about Hibbert when I heard the news about Solomon Jones being favored over him, but this game should start to end those rumors. The Nuggets have some big men and guys who can get to the hoop in a hurry. Hibbert should have had trouble with them, but eight blocks is amazing, even if its a preseason game.
Fanhouse had a nice article on Roy Hibbert on Wednesday, you can see it here. He thinks that Hibbert can really do something this year. Rik Smits was the last actual big man that the Pacers could rely on, but he was still a hybrid type of center. Hibbert is 7′2, 278 pounds of muscle and defense. If they can shed 4-5 points off of their points against totals, you would think that the Pacers could add a few games in the win total and not be the #9 team in the East.
If Hibbert keeps this up, I may have to go online and purchase a throwback Hibbert jersey. I know throwbacks aren’t as cool as they were three years ago, but I won’t one of those FloJo-designed Hibbert jerseys.
